Mt. Pulag, dubbed the “Playground of the Gods,” is the third highest mountain in the Philippines and the highest peak in Luzon, standing proudly at 2,926 meters above sea level (MASL). A favorite among hiking and outdoor enthusiasts, it spans the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao, and Nueva Vizcaya. The most accessible and beginner-friendly route to the summit is via the Ambangeg Trail, which starts at the Ranger Station in Kabayan, Benguet. This trail is relatively easy and non-technical, typically taking 4 to 5 hours to reach the summit. For those seeking a more challenging and scenic adventure, the Akiki and Tawangan Trails offer tougher climbs, complete with steeper ascents and raw, pristine landscapes. While Mt. Pulag can be hiked year-round, the best time to visit is during the summer months, when the skies are clearer and the chances of typhoons are minimal.
