Itinerary
1 / Pickup and Drive to Tagaytay
Your private, chauffeur-driven car will pick you up between 08:00 to 09:30 am for a 1.5 to 2-hour drive south of Manila to Tagaytay. You'll travel down a winding narrow road from the Taal Ridge, believed to be part of the volcano itself, to the small community of Talisay, offering a closer view of Taal Volcano.
2 / Boat Ride to Taal Volcano Island
Around 10 to 11:00 am, you'll board a motorized outrigger boat for a 30-minute ride to Taal Volcano Island. Here, you'll witness a small community of local fishermen amidst a barren landscape.
3 / Guided Hike to Crater Rim
Accompanied by your local English-speaking guide, you'll embark on a 30 to 40-minute walk up to the rim of the crater. While not a difficult walk, the loose lava sand, dust, and heat can be challenging. At the top, you'll be rewarded with a unique view of the inner Crater Lake, the largest lake on an island in the world, where you can spend about an hour taking in the sights of the dormant volcano up close.
4 / Return Boat Ride and Lunch
After your hike, you'll return to the shores by local outrigger boat around 13:00 pm, following this timetable to avoid trekking during the heat of the day. Your driver will then take you to a lakeside inn for a well-deserved, one-hour local set lunch.
5 / Departure and Return to Manila
Expect to leave around 14:00 pm to avoid traffic into Metro Manila. Your driver will drop you off around 16:00 pm, concluding your Taal Volcano tour.
Taal Lake, the third largest freshwater lake in the Philippines, offers a unique experience as it is situated within an island, which itself is located within another lake—making it the world's largest double lake. Despite recent closures due to volcanic activity, Taal Volcano remains a sought-after destination for its stunning landscapes and is renowned as the most active volcano in the Philippines, attracting adventurous travelers seeking unforgettable trekking experiences.
Taal Lake, once connected to the sea, is now the third largest freshwater lake in the Philippines, measuring 18km by 25 km with an average depth of 100 meters. It's unique as it sits on an island within another lake, making it the world's largest double lake. Taal Volcano, within the lake, is the most active in the Philippines and one of the 16th most active globally, popular for trekking tours from Manila. Following a major eruption in January 2020, with ashes spreading over 100 km, the area was closed, displacing residents from Volcano Island. Despite subsequent eruptions and elevated alert levels, the high sulfur dioxide levels have kept the island closed to trekking, maintaining it at alert level 1.
